Srikakulam cracker blast toll takes to 12

One more person died in a cracker blast on Friday in Srikakulam. This explosion takes the toll in explosion in a house to 12. Another explosion occurred, when a lorry carrying the crackers took out from the debris for defusing on the bank of Nagavali River.

The truck burst into flames leaving five persons including two police constables injured. One of the injured died in the hospital. A panic situation prevailed in the city again. Thirteen persons were injured in the explosion that took place in the house where crackers were being manufactured without licence. Five injured persons were sent to KGH at Visakhapatnam for better treatment.

The Home Minister K.Jana Reddy along with the Revenue Minister visited the site of the blast and called on the injured in the hospital and announced financial assistance of Rs.1 lakh each to the kith and kin of the dead Rs.25, 000 for the injured.

Speaking with the media, the Home Minister announced the suspension of the MRO and the Sub Inspector of Police concerned for gross negligence of duty. An enquiry had been ordered into the incident and officials found responsible will be punished, he said.
