Damodara Naik aged 55 who was the considered the first voter in India died of brief illness. Naik from Itchapuram, Srikakulam became the first voter in the recently concluded elections. He got this distinction with the Election Commission Srikakulam Parliamentary Constituency at the top of its list and Itchapuram at the top of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Constituency list. Boot No. 1 in Itchapuram thus became the first constituency as per the official records.
Naik used to work as a nigh watchman and is survived with a wife. His wife Dalamma Naik is the first woman voter as per the official records.
