Spurious toddy claims 12 lives

It may be recalled that the death toll in the spurious toddy case at Rattakana village near Ichapuram on Sunday claiming seven lives. The death toll rose to 12. In all more than 30 persons were taken ill after consuming toddy and 20 were battling for life at various hospitals in Ichapuram, Visakhapatnam and Berhampore.

The Minister for Rehabilitation Dharmana Prasada Rao who visited Ichapuram on Monday announced an ex gratia of Rs.1 lakh to the kin of the deceased.

Director of Prohibition and Excise would conduct an inquiry in the incident.
