Councilor slaps Municipal official

Says she did so for not heeding her demand on a public tap

A Congress councilor B. Chandravati assaulted the Town Planning Officer K. Venkateswara Rao in the presence of Municipal Chairperson M. Padmavathi in her chambers. The incident took place after the councilor entered into an argument with the Town Planning Officer over installation of a public tap in her ward.

She pulled up the official as to why her demand was not considered. The officials said that the tap in Mahalakshminagar colony was not a public place and the MRO has to allow erection of the tap at the specified place.

Incensed over his reply, she shouted at him and slapped him in presence of the Chairperson and some councilors looking on.
