On Thursday, suspected anthrax cases claimed the lives of 24 sheep at Konda Bheemipuram village of Tekkali mandal. The Joint Director of Animal Husbandry MM Rehman who visited the spot stated that the sheep might have died due to anthrax. Blood samples were collected from the dead sheep and sent to the Veterinary Biological Research Institution at Hyderabad for confirmation.
A decision will be taken only after the results of the sample tests are announced by the institution. However, as a precautionary measure, the residents of nearby villages were alerted about the disease and vaccines will be administered to the sheep in these areas according to the Assistant Director Jayaraj.
