Amudalavalasa Railway Godowns brought down

October 12, 2007

About 150 small shops now out of business

The Railway Godowns at the Amudalavalasa Railway Station are brought down using proclaimers. The then Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and Member of Parliament K Yerran Naidu have laid a foundation stone for upgradation works of the Railway Station way back in September 2003 at a cost of Rs. 85 Lakhs. This required that the Railway godowns be brought down.

However, the godowns are taken on lease by seven persons who in turn gave them to over 150 petty shop owners who are conducting their business operations smoothly. The authorities served notices to them asking them to vacate the premises but the shop owners did not take the notice serious. On October 6, 2007, a final notice was issued for which the shop owners showed little or no reaction. The shop owners demanded for an alternative place where they can shift their shops for which there is no response.

The authorities have finally decided to get the premises vacated and the godowns brought down by themselves. Police personnel, both from the State Police and the Railway Police are deployed in large number to ensure that no untoward incident happens.
